why mediation
For the Modern Family
Today’s modern family exists in many forms, including same-sex couples, unmarried couples who have a child together, parents who travel frequently, and parents residing long distances from each other.
Families face a myriad of financial issues including, but not limited to:
Valuing a business interest
Calculating income for support purposes
Determining the standard of living enjoyed during the marriage
Characterizing property as marital or non-marital property
Allocating payment of children’s expenses
Mediating all or any portion of these issues provides an opportunity for your family to achieve workable solutions that conform to your specific circumstances.
Efficiency & Accessibility
Family law and matrimonial matters are often emotionally and financially taxing. When compared to litigation, mediation allows for a more efficient and economical way to resolve these issues. This is due to direct communication between the parties, voluntary disclosure without unnecessary procedural steps, and resolution without the need to rely on the court’s limited availability.
Further, agreements reached in mediation have staying power because these are resolutions created and agreed upon by the parties that will uphold them, rather than judgments imposed upon them by the court.
In mediation, you will retain control of the process and any agreements that are made.
